This is a great DVD to help your learn Pilates and to tone up and lose weight.

It has three sections depending on your level and/or experience with Pilates. Also depending on how you feel or if you are a bit out of shape or have not worked out, you can start with the easier sections and build yourself back up.

The cues are clear and the pace is good and doable.

Overall, I'm quite pleased with this DVD. It has something for just about everybody (though I only did the beginner routine once because it was a bit too easy for me). The DVD a bit misleadingly claims to have 18+ workouts or something. More accurately, it has 3 routines (beginner, intermediate, advanced) broken into smaller pieces on the sub menus for shorter workouts. That said, I'm still glad to have good options for 15-45 minutes workout without having to toggle through the exercises I have time to do in the full workout. Everybody has time for a 15 minute routine.

It's also sort of a misnomer to call it "Pilates for Weight Loss." While Pilates does occasionally get my heartrate up, it's much more about controlled toning than burning tons of calories. Pilates is magic for toning abdominals, but you aren't going to lose lots of inches and pounds by doing Pilates alone. You still need to get 30-45 minutes of cardio activity 3-5 times per week, coupled with sensible eating, to see those kinds of results. This DVD is a great toning supplement, though, and good for people who don't like lifting weights (though there is a brief weightlifting segment, it's not killer or anything).

I'm impressed by the proper form demonstrated by this DVD and the excellent implementation of Joseph Pilates' actual exercises. Many so-called Pilates DVDs seem a lot more "Pilates-inspired" rather than actually Pilates.

As others have mentioned, the voiceover narration is terrible. The cuing is good, but the narrator's voice is shrill and LOUD. I have to turn it down to barely above muted just to make it tolerable. I understand using voiceover and I'm not opposed to it on principle; it means the instructor is free to perform the exercises without huffing and puffing through the cuing. To a new user, I would suggest listening to the voiceover the first few times through the exercises to get a sense of the timing and technique and then to put it on MUTE and listen to your favorite tunes. It doesn't move fast enough that you'll miss anything if you look away for a couple of seconds.

Buy the DVD. It'll only do something for you if you use it consistently. It's not rocket science.

Good instruction that is geared for people who need things that are easier to start with, she does a good job of making the moves modified for the 1st level. Then routines expanded and changed (less modifications/move moves) to help give a more intense workout on the the next two levels. Really love using this.

I have been very happy with this DVD. Her cadence and pacing through the levels has been right on for me, with the easier beginner levels being easier to use and start with and improving on more moves later on.
Some of the moves at the beginning may seem easy depedning in how good of shapre you are in, but working with them really has been effective for me.

I like selections of exercises that have helped me loss weight and tone up nicely.

after i read all the 4 and 5 star reviews i really thought i was going to get an awesome dvd for pilates workout.. and i ended up being so annoyed the second time i tried to do the dvd... i know pilates are gradually increased movements and all but this instructor teaches too slow and talks the whole freakin time!!! "now raise your leg up, then down, and up and down, and UP and Doowwwnnn, and UP! and down.. two more, and up and down.." like OMG!!! i think we got the point the first time when she said go up and down dang it! oh well, point is... dont buy this if you hate feeling like a complete idiot moving at sloth speed... if u want a good workout do kundalini yoga same benefits and MORE! sorry to sound rude, but thats not what I'm trying to be at all... just honest and straight forward cuz its your money that youre spending on YOU'RE health! good luck to everyone bettering their health!
